Reformare Lab: Kimono Reconstruction 2026
Reformare Lab has long approached fashion through experimental design, deconstructing vintage garments and reconstructing them into contemporary pieces.
Three years ago, our team began journeying deep into Kyoto to curate and collect rare, traditional Japanese kimono textiles—including intangible cultural crafts such as Imperial mud-black dyeing (dorokurozome), seven-layer dip dyeing (shichidozome), and natural botanical dyeing (kusakizome).
Originally woven with meticulous precision exclusively for kimonos, these fabrics have gradually been left dormant in storehouses as changing eras and economic shifts reduced demand for bespoke kimonos. We have hand-selected these distinct vintage textiles and repurposed them into hats.
Due to the rarity of these vintage fabrics, each bolt yields only around a dozen pieces, making this collection strictly ultra-limited. The hue, texture, and grain of every piece are entirely unique. For those who appreciate traditional Japanese textile arts, this is a release not to be missed.
