STD JACQUARD & CALF LEATHER TOTE BAG

The STD2.0 series, a reissue launched in 2021, features a reversible Hanten design inspired by the work wear of firefighters during the Edo period. One side of the jacket is jacquard with an embossed dragon pattern, while the other side is made of Linen and Sashiko “刺し子” . The dragon pattern represents the concept of ”潛龍勿用“ (lit. ”hide the dragon, do not awaken it“), symbolizing the idea that the dragon remains submerged in the water, cultivating strength and biding its time, temporarily refraining from taking action. Given the unfavorable current situation, it is important to exercise caution and refrain from impulsive actions. In the face of tumultuous times and challenging circumstances, it is easy to feel discouraged and powerless, lamenting our inability to turn the tides and reverse the worsening situation. Therefore, it is crucial for us to learn from the wisdom of our predecessors and embrace the spirit of ”潛龍勿用,“ exercising patience, equipping ourselves, and waiting for the right moment to take action.

STD2.0シリーズの復刻は、2021年に発売された両面ジャケットです。このジャケットのデザインは、江戸時代の消防士の作業服をベースにしており、片面には潜龍図を織り込んだ刺繍が施されています。もう片面は麻と刺子刺繍で作られています。潜龍図は、「潜龍勿用」という意味で、必要な時には龍の面を内側に反転させて着用します。これは龍が水中に潜んで、エネルギーを蓄えている状態であり、一時的に行動を起こすことができないことを象徴しています。現在の状況は不利であり、注意深く慎重に行動しなければなりません。大きな時代の変動に直面し、困難な状況に置かれた中で、私たちは自らが無力であることを感じ、状況を変えることができないことに嘆息することが多いでしょう。だからこそ、私たちは先人の「潜龍勿用」の知恵を学び、焦らずに忍耐強く自己を装備し、待機し、チャンスをうかがう必要があります。
